# Goals: Track and Measure Your Key Conversion Actions

> Define the pages and events that matter most, then measure what percentage of your visitors complete each one during any date range you choose.

Goals translate your site's purpose into a measurable number. You define an action — visiting a specific page or triggering a specific event — and Betterumami tells you what percentage of visitors within your selected date range completed it. Unlike a funnel, a Goal does not care about the path taken to reach the action; it simply measures reach. That makes Goals the right tool for tracking outcomes like "how many visitors landed on `/thank-you` this month?" or "what share of visitors clicked the live-demo button?" You can save multiple Goals and run them all at once to get a side-by-side view of your site's conversion health.

## What it measures

For each Goal, Betterumami divides the number of visitors who completed the target action by the total number of visitors in the selected date range, then expresses that as a conversion rate percentage. Both page-based and event-based actions are supported.

## Parameters

| Parameter | Description |
| - | - |
| **Action** | (required) The action a visitor must complete to count as a conversion. Either a page view at a specific URL, or a specific named event. |

## Action types

| Action Type | Description | Example |
| - | - | - |
| **Viewed page** | The visitor must have viewed a specific URL path. | `/pricing`, `/thank-you`, `/signup` |
| **Triggered event** | The visitor must have triggered a specific named event. | `live-demo-button`, `signup`, `checkout-complete` |

## How to create a Goal

<Steps>
  <Step title="Click Add Goal">
    Open the **Goals** insight from your website navigation, then click the **Add Goal** button.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Fill out the form">
    Give the Goal a descriptive name so you can identify it in the list. A clear name like "Pricing page view" or "Demo button click" is more useful than "Goal 1."
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose your action type">
    Select either **Viewed page** or **Triggered event** from the Action dropdown.

    * For **Viewed page**, enter the exact URL path you want to track, such as `/pricing` or `/thank-you`.
    * For **Triggered event**, enter the event name exactly as it appears in your tracking code, such as `live-demo-button` or `purchase-complete`.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save the Goal">
    Click **Save**. The Goal is added to your Goals list and will be calculated the next time you run the insight.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Run the insight">
    Click **Run** (or the date range picker updates automatically). Each Goal card displays the conversion rate and the raw visitor counts — visitors who completed the action vs. total visitors in the period.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Editing and deleting Goals

To edit or delete a Goal, click the **ellipsis (···)** menu on the Goal's card. Choose **Edit** to update the name or action, or **Delete** to remove the Goal entirely.

<Note>
  Goals use the same date range and filters set on the Overview Dashboard. Apply a UTM filter before opening Goals to measure conversion rates for a specific campaign, or filter by country to compare how different markets convert on the same action.
</Note>

<Tip>
  Create Goals for each stage of your conversion flow — for example, `/pricing` (interest), `/signup` (intent), and `/welcome` (conversion). Comparing their rates side by side gives you a lightweight funnel view without configuring a full Funnel insight. For drop-off analysis at each step, use the [Funnel](/docs/funnels) report instead.
